LIONS LEAVE IT LATE TO DOWN FRANKFURT

Munich - A late Moritz Stoppelkamp goal gave 1860 Munich a narrow but deserved victory over FSV Frankfurt in Munich...

1860 took the game to their opponents, albeit without creating many clearcut chances in the blistering Bavarian heat. They almost burned into the lead early in the second half, though, when Daniel Adlung curled in a shot beyond the reach of Patric Klandt, but also beyond the far post.

Frankfurt were struggling to find a way into the game, yet they took the lead in the 53rd minute when Matthew Leckie's shot took a wicked deflection off Kai Bülow to loop over Gabor Kiraly and in. The lead lasted just two minutes before Benjamin Lauth caressed a Stoppelkamp cross from the left inside the far post.

The Lions thought they had won it midway through the second half when Guillermo Vallori headed against the underside of the crossbar and Rob Friend nodded in the rebound, albeit after the whistle had been blown for a foul. Lauth hit the crossbar again before Stoppelkamp slotted in a winner going into stoppage time.
